blossom
The roots of a lotus are in the mud, the stem grows up through the water, and the heavily scented flower lies above the water, basking in the sunlight. This pattern of growth signifies the progress of the soul from the primeval mud of materialism, through the waters of experience, and into the bright sunshine of enlightenment. Though there are other water plants that bloom above the water, it is only the lotus which, owing to the strength of its stem, regularly rises eight to twelve inches above the surface.

Welcome.

The Lotus in the Mud group provides a virtual forum for those interested in Buddhism to engage in open discussion about various themes and questions that arise from the exploration of contemporary and traditional texts.

_______________

The group will focus on a single piece of Buddhist literature, reading and discussing a single selection or chapter each week. Every Monday a new selection will be announced on this site. After reading the piece, participants may offer comments or questions and share their experience on the community forum.
